Where the Icon of the Virgin Myrovlitisa is located

The miraculous icon of the Theotokos Myrovlitisa, meaning Myrrh-flowing, was originally placed in a renowned monastery of Constantinople, known as the Myrelaion Monastery. Later, Saint Paul of Xeropotamou transferred and installed the holy icon in the second monastery he founded, after the Monastery of Xeropotamou . This new monastery was named after him, the Holy Monastery of Saint Paul.

Why the Virgin was Named Myrovlitissa

By the grace of God, the holy icon of the Theotokos once began to gush myrrh (holy aromatic oil), and for this reason, she was called ‘Myrovlitissa’ (the Myrrh-flowing). The icon of the Virgin Myrovlitisa has never stopped to perform miracles for those who visit, praying and invoking the Ever-Virgin Mary.

Its miraculous power makes it a symbol of faith and hope for pilgrims, who approach it with deep reverence and devotion, seeking consolation and strength.
